Mark Aldridge, his two sons, George and Alfie, and Alfie’s girlfriend, Marie, fished 23 miles west of New Pass with me on Wednesday, 12/1/21. The group used squid and cut-bait to catch twenty lane snapper to 15 inches. Unfortunately, those all had to be released, due to the current moratorium on harvesting lanes. They also caught and released thirty-one red grouper to 20 inches, all of which were released due to closed harvest.
Mike and Sherri Borchers fished a catch-and-release offshore trip with me 22 miles west of New Pass on Monday morning, 12/6. They used squid and cut-bait to catch three blacknose shark, 25 inches, 36 inches, and 38 inches. They released those, along with a 14-inch lane snapper and two dozen red grouper to 18 inches.
Patrick Connaughty and his son, Silas, fished southern Estero Bay’s backwaters with me on Wednesday morning, 12/8. They used live shrimp to catch twenty sheepshead, including five keepers to 14 inches. They released two mangrove snapper shorts, two small permit, and two crevalle jacks.
Dan and Stacey Dickerson, their daughter, Abby, and Abby’s boyfriend, Keagan Dorstoen, fished in spots 17 to 22 miles west of New Pass on Monday morning, 12/20. They used squid to catch six lane snapper to 14-inches, all of which would have been keepers, except for the moratorium on harvesting lanes, which is in effect until January. They released those, along with tw0 dozen red grouper shorts.
Long-time customer, Mike Connealy fished 19 miles west of New Pass Monday, 12/.27, accompanied by his son-in-law, Brett Ewig, and Brett’s young daughter, Haley. The family had a productive morning offshore. They used squid to catch six keeper lane snapper to 14 inches, and were able to box them, since lane season re-opened on 12.24. They also boxed four porgies and a 28-inch gag grouper, which was the catch of the day! They released an 18-inch gag grouper short, along with a 16-inch triggerfish, which is currently out of season.
Brian Matlock and his sons, Eamon and Graham, joined by friend, Matt Wentzel and his two sons, Luke and Gabe, fished 22 miles west of New Pass on Tuesday morning, 12/28. They used squid to tap into a very hot lane snapper bite, which yielded twenty-one keeper lanes to 16 inches. They released twenty red grouper to 20 inches, as those are still out of season.
Roy Mittman and his son, Zak, fished southern Estero Bay’s backwaters on Thursday morning, 12/30, where they used live shrimp to catch four keeper sheepshead to 16 inches and an 11-inch, keeper mangrove snapper. They released nine mangrove snapper shorts and an 18-inch snook.
