2010 and a record cold December ended with an amazingly beautiful sunny 80 degree day. T shirts and shorts were comfortable on the water today. Keep in mind the water is still very cold at 53 so dress in layers. Zipping along in the boat and get chilly early in the day even in the sun.
The action was sluggish for Captain Steven Friday with only a handful of trout to show for the effort. I located a school of redfish in the same location as Wednesday only this time they would not chew. I bounced a live tail hooked shrimp right past numerous reds with no takers. I even bounced the shrimp over the reds who seemed indifferent to any bait.
Sheepshead and small grouper were fun and today’s best bet along the docks. I spoke with 2 anglers on the water who nailed an awesome 25” grouper fishing docks.
The forecast is for mild days in the low 70’s the next week. With any luck we can get local waters back to more seasonal 60 degree temps. Trout season opens January 1. Happy New Year.
