Thursday morning was sluggish as the tide was non existent. For 90 minutes the water was slack as was the action for Captain Steven. No tide combined with 52 degree water has thrown Tampa Bay anglers a curve.
Today was an all artificial day tossing the DOA Deadly combo in 2-4’ and the DOA Cal shad in 3-6’. Water clarity is good so be sure to down size your leaders, 10-15 pound fluorocarbon is perfect for the grass flats. Braid main line 10 pound is great for making long stealthy casts.
Once the water warmed 2 degrees and tide started it was if someone flipped a switch. I worked the same grass flats as Wednesday with more action and several larger trout in the afternoon. The big catch of the day was snagging a Manns lure package! Anglers remember to bring back all your trash better yet bring back more than you take.
Target grass flats with clear water and good tidal flow. Live shrimp, soft plastics baits along with hard bodied suspending baits all work. Remember to keep your offering near the bottom and work it slowly.
