David Hamblin of Coyote Bait said there has been an excellent striper bite in the main lake on the 4- to 8-foot flats in Cottonwood Bay with Lucky Craft Pointer 100's or 128's in ghost minnow, aurora black or metallic. They picked up 13 halibut to 18-pounds and 6 flatties to 22-pounds Saturday. Jim Smith on the Happy Hooker went down the San Mateo coast for ½ limits of big rockfish with several quality ling cod Saturday. Smith said the most consistent halibut bite has been on the outgoing tide east of Alcatraz Island with a new batch of large females moving in over the past few days.

Private boaters found up to 4 limits Sunday. The Checkmate hooked three fish, but they were lost on the long drag. The fish are hugging the bottom, and boats with downriggers are having success. Striper fishing from Carmel Beach has been great with Fish Traps in the early mornings. Halibut fishing up the coast with Boccie Boy Sardines produced a couple of limits as an influx of baitfish turned on the bite. The halibut bite is starting to show momentum with good water and bait conditions. There were scores of halibut in 30 feet near Capitola, and some good scores on the west side of Santa Cruz.
