Hurricane Should Turn Fish On Capt. Barry Brown

Hurricanes are not something coastal residents wish for, but after one passes through we always see a spike in the fish bites. As I write this I am in the feeder bands of approaching hurricane Gustov. We should see winds up to 70 mph from the storm and a surge of 4 to 6 feet above normal tides.

I am certainly nervous about the potential damage from this hurricane; the memory of my personal damage from Katrina is still very fresh on my mind. But I am at the same time anxious to get on the water after the storm to enjoy its fishing benefits. I expect September to be a spectacular month for speckled trout and redfish.

After Katrina we experienced the best fall fishing in my lifetime. It was almost effortless. Watch for my next fishing report to see if we get a similar boost from Gustov
