The new moon this weekend will make for some great action. Strong tidal flow and high tides pushing 3’ on Tampa Bay will greet anglers with numerous options. Moving water is key for many inshore species especially snook and redfish.
Captains Steven trip will focus trips around big redfish on Mangrove islands, snook on the passes and trout in deep grass flats. Mix in Bonita, Mackerel even a Tarpon or 2 and we have many fun options.
The redfish are inhaling cut threadfins fly lined on 2/0 circle hooks. Remember with circle hooks you don’t set the hook rather just reel and slowly raise you rod tip. The big reds take some time to land so be sure to use tackle heavy enough to land the redfish before it’s totally exhausted. The warm waters of summers mean it’s critical we revive the fish and return to the water safely.
Spotted sea trout will be active during the cooler incoming tide on deep grass flats. Getting you live baits near the bottom is key and may require a split shot weight. Mackerel will attack large threadfins and crush silver spoons retrieved rapidly.
Tarpon are still here and will be on the beaches early and slurping up crabs along the Skyway Bridge during the outgoing tide.
