Lake - Table Rock

KimberlingCity Area: The rain and wind turned on the smallmouth shallow on gravel points and flats; Jewel spider jigs, football jigs in PB&J or squirrel heads with a green pumpkin finesse worm were all very effective from five to fifteen feet in low light or windy conditions. Early and late there is still a decent topwater bite in these same locals, look for schooling fish or shad near the surface to find locations. Much like the rest of the lake a good deep bite has developed over the past week or two in the mid lake area; drop shot rigged Chompers worms or Robo Worms fished from twenty eight to thirty five feet deep on gravel points and flats will result in both numbers and quality.  

James River: Typical summer patterns have shaped up in the James River; deep crankbaits and Jewel football jigs can be used to catch fish stacked up on roll offs from Aunts creek up to Asher Cain. Look for gravel and rock points close to channel banks that “roll off” on one side into deeper water. Deep crankbaits like DD 22’s , DT 16’s and Fat Free Shad in shad colors are the most effective, work the bait from a variety of angle across and down the roll off until fish are located, then make multiple casts to these locations at these angles. The same locals will produce with a Jewel Football jig; PB&J or brown / purple flash half and five eighth ounce jigs with J tail or Paca craw trailers are the most effective.

White River: Fish can be caught a number of ways up the White River; drop shot rigged worms and spoons fished on deep points and flats, deep crankbaits on roll offs and top water will all produce fish from Baxter to Eagle Rock. Look for the same structure and conditions as the in the James and mid lake areas to be productive in the White River. There is a decent flipping bite shaping up in the Kings River, look for shade around boat docks, log jams and stumps to be the most productive areas, Texas rigged worms, brush hogs and Paca Craws in red shad, June bug or green pumpkin have been the best colors.

Dam Area: While not as frequent as in weeks past there are still schools of white bass to be found schooling in the early morning hours on gravel points and flats on the lower ed of the lake. Pay close attention to the surface for activity and cast Rapala Skitter Pop or Zara Puppies to surfacing fish. When the surface activity has slowed more can be caught by throwing half ounce spoons and allowing them to sink to around ten feet and hopping them back to the boat. Drop shot rigged Chompers  or Robo worms have been very productive on gravel flats  and points from twenty eight to thirty five feet deep. Further up Long Creek Jewel Eakins jig and craw combos and Texas rigged worms or brush hogs have been effective when flipped to shallow cover from Cricket Creek to above Yokum.

The Corps has been adjusting the current flow through out the week; limited generation in the morning has made the bite tougher on moving baits like spinners and spoons early in the day. Jigs remain the most popular artificial offering; smaller weights in sculpin, white or grey have been the most effective. Tiny micro jigs in olive or tan fished below a float have been effective during slack water; work them in the deep channel banks and pools below riffles. When all else fails anchor up and work deep areas over with Power Bait or Gulp eggs on a drift rig or half a night crawler injected with air.
