What a cold front!Old man winter has finally arrived.Fishing has been outstanding lately. Believe it or not, we’ve still been catching live bait and fishing with it.However, the next few weeks will bring about a change. It’s time to switch from fall fishing with live bait to winter fishing with shrimp or artificial lures. Bring it on; I’m ready for something different.

We managed to catch live bait everyday last week, but it was harder to catch some days than others. When you have good bait along with a water temperature above 63 degrees, its fish on.Occasionally, the fishing will start out a little slow, but once the water temperature reaches the right mark, it’s as if someone turned on a light switch. As you can see from the attached pictures, the snook and redfish have been great action lately.

When the water temperature gets below 63 degrees and stays there for a few days, the winter fishing is good. With the water temperature below 63 degrees, we fish with shrimp or artificial bait to catch redfish, trout, snook, sheepshead, etc… We usually do most of our winter fishing in and around the rivers.Until next time… happy holidays and stay warm! Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today!
