April is always one of Anna Maria Island’s best month to fish and it looks like we are right on track for a typical April. This time of year you can’t pick a wrong direction to go, there are just so many different areas holding a different verity of fish.
Inshore the Snook, Redfish and Trout have been a killer. I had one day this week where we landed over 50 Snook and 18 Redfish. Most days inshore have been pretty similar. Basically the flats are just covered up with fish.
Offshore is equally good. Snapper fishing is better than ever. I have been catching large Kingfish and they will only get thicker from here. There are tons of hard pulling Grouper mixed in with the Snapper. There are also some Cobia and Permit on the wrecks as well as Mackerel and Tunny. If you want something big, Goliath Grouper and Sharks are getting more aggressive following the migration of the pelagic fish.
In general the fishing is about as good as it gets around here. Remember that Tarpon season will be here shortly, May 1st thru mid July it’s my primary target.
