Hello fellow fishermen, Capt. Matt here with the Tampa Bay fishing report. I am really busy this time of year so keeping up with the report lacks a little bit, sorry for that. My main objective everyday is putting my customers on quality fish, which pretty much consumes most of my time right now. Anyway, here is a quick look at the fishing we have to offer right now.
The offshore fishing is excellent right now. Kingfish, Snapper, Cobia, Permit, Mackerel, and Tunny are biting like crazy and the action has been fast every day. I can honestly say we haven’t had a slow day offshore in April. For fishermen looking for larger fish, I have been a hundred percent on Goliath Grouper over 200 pounds. There are all the Sharks you can stand to fight mixed in feeding on the pelagic fish. My largest fish this past week was a solid 400 pound Goliath Grouper.
Inshore the Snook fishing remains good as well. Trout fishing has really picked up for me as well, plenty of keeper Trout with a lot of consistency. The Red fishing still has not been spectacular for me; I am catching keepers mixed in with the Snook. I haven’t been looking for Reds too much; most of my time has been spent offshore with the remainder of my time Snook and Trout fishing inshore.
Peak Tarpon is cranking up right now. This week I will be prepping my Tarpon gear. A few last changes to some rod and reels and catch a few crabs to add to my stockpile I have been working on the past month along with adding my 10 hp electric motors to the boat. I plan on hitting them hard the end of this week. If anyone is interested I just had a cancelation for June 1, 2 and 3, premium Tarpon dates. I do have a few other slots scattered throughout peek season.
