Anna Maria Island July Fishing Report

Wow! Do we have a lot of Tarpon and I mean a lot.  There are Tarpon by the thousands in passes, on the beaches and in the bay.  If you can’t find a Tarpon to cast to in five minutes you must be blind, they are everywhere.   We had a great week on Tarpon.  It’s really nice to get out of bed in the morning, hopping into the boat just knowing you are going to have a great day battling multiple Tarpon.  I had a couple days where we had multiple triple hookups.  The only reason we didn’t drop another line over the side and get 4 on at one time is because we already had more than we could manage; Tarpon fishing has been that good.  It should stay strong at least till the day of the full moon on the 12th.  Some fish should leave and spawn at that point, but with the number of fish south of here and the patterns the fish are running we are anticipating another push of new fish from the south.  So I think there is a very solid chance we will fish them late into the month.  I will keep you posted on the Tarpon movement as it happens.

We did fish inshore today and we killed the Trout, caught a lot of Snook, including one pushing 40 inches, and lost another about that size.  We couldn’t find any Reds today but were so busy with the Snook and Trout we didn’t try hard to find them.

So that’s it for now, other than guys telling me they have been hammering the Snapper. Until next time, enjoy your time on the water.
