Late February fishing and we did very good with Snook yesterday. We landed 37 Snook, 6 Redfish and a few Trout. The largest Snook was about 28 inches the largest Red about 26 and the largest Trout about 23 inches. The water is reaching the low 70’s and the fishing is going into full spring mode, some of the hottest action of the year.
The Snook fishing slowed a little on the last cold front then picked right back up where it left off after two warm days. The Red fishing did the same.
I did have one tough day on the flats right after the cold front so the next couple days we went offshore where the fish would not be affected from quickly cooling water. That was a good decision, everything was on the bite and we caught a ton of Grouper, Snapper, Flounder, False Albacore and a few Mackerel. The big bonus is the Flounder. We caught as many Flounder as I ever have and a lot between 15 and 17 inches. Pretty much the Flounder bite is as many as you want to catch and with Grouper season closed that’s a good thing because as far as I’m concerned nothing is as good as a flounder.I even got about 6 or 7 pounds of fillets for myself.
The Grouper bite was equally good. We couldn’t keep them but we had fun catching them. Some of the Gags where close to 30 inches, the Reds were up to 23.It will be a free for all when Grouper season comes in.
False Albacore were on fire not far offshore. We have been catching all the 10 to 15 pounders you want and believe me when I say this they will pull your arm off.I had them so chummed up even a fly fisherman could put a hurting on them.
Well that sums up the action this past week,Let me know if you want to get out with me. I still have a few charters available. Also if you guys want to Tarpon fish let me know soon, I only have a few available dates remaining during peak season, May 1st through the 3rd week of July.
