Table Rock and Taneycomo Fishing Reports

Lake - Table Rock

9/20/10:

KimberlingCity Area: Water levels are very close to summer pool flooding shallow bushes throughout the mid lake. Cooler nights have dropped water temperatures into the high seventies in the morning and fog has been a pleasant surprise almost every morning filtering the sunlight for a couple of hours everyday. The high water and the fog have move fish very shallow early in the day making them susceptible to topwater, shallow flipping and buzzbaits until the sun comes up. Spooks and buzz baits are working just outside of the brush line before the sun burns through the fog and Jewel spider jigs or Squirrel Heads with finesse worms are effective in the bushes. As the sun comes up switch to a three eights ounce Jewel football jig and work these same areas fifteen to twenty five feet deep.

James River: Fantastic water color up the James River; fish are shallow and stay there most of the day even when it is bright and sunny. Just like the mid lake concentrate on flooded bushes early and back out a little as the fog burns off. Jewel football jigs are still the star attraction with half ounce models in brown purple flash garnering most of the bites. Carolina rigged lizards and baby brush hogs have been effective in green pumpkin as well. Above Cape Fair there is a very good shallow cover bite in the backs of pockets and creek arms, look for wood cover ten feet deep or less and throw square bills, spinnerbaits and buzz baits close to the cover to draw strikes.

White River: The White River has been plain fun over the past week; shallow to deep fish can be caught anywhere from a foot deep to forty – five feet deep depending on how you want to fish. Just like the mid lake and James River look for fish to be around shallow bushes early in the day, as the sun comes up switch up to a Jewel Football jig and work flat banks and points from fifteen to twenty five feet deep. If you prefer to drop shot these same areas are holding schools of spotted bass in the thirty to forty foot range close to the bottom, look for schools of shad on your electronics to find the fish. Up the Kings the same shallow cover bite is working as in the James River.

Dam Area: The deep bite remains king on the lower end; Chompers and ROBO drop shot worms fished on the edge of flats and flat points are producing well, any deep brush piles on the locations should be fished thoroughly as better fish have been holding tight to deep cover during the heat of the day. Jewel three quarter ounce football jigs in PB&J with a green pumpkin J Tail will produce quality smallmouth on gravel roll offs through out the lower end of the lake. Up Long creek above the state line shallow cover has been the deal, look for wood and flooded bushes to produce most of the day with Eakins jigs and Chompers Ultra Tubes.

Lake – Taneycomo

9/20/10

It sounds like a broken record but Taneycomo has remained strong this past week, predictable generation and a little bit of color left over from the run off has kept the bite strong. Drift rigs with live crawlers or Gulp Eggs are producing as always, Jigs in sculpin, ginger and olive have been very good when fished erratic and some better fish have been coming on Little Cleos and Bouyant Spoons.
