Fast action Tampa Bay

It’s hard to believe its August already. Don’t be fooled, while the days are getting shorter we have several months of hot weather ahead.

Captain Steven picked up his anglers at 630 am to get started at first light. Our goal was to get on the fast action / mixed bag that Captain Steven has been targeting lately. First we needed to load the lie well with white baits. The bait was thick on the up current side of the bridge. No chumming was needed and only one toss of the cast net was required.

My anglers Gary his grandson Jeremy and Dad Eddy had a friendly wager for first fish. Jeremy and Eddy both had several hits but it was Gary that won the bet! The bite was good but not the nonstop action of Saturday. Trout, Mackerel and catfish all took white baits.

We made a short run North of Port Manatee and set up in 8’. I deployed a chum bag and it did not take long to get the party started. Jeremy had the hot hand and had hits or fish on most baits. Jeremy’s reel began to scream and it took several minutes before we saw his beautiful mackerel. Then Jeremy had another solid fish this time a very nice bluefish.

Mackerel, Trout, Bluefish, Jacks, Ladyfish and Snapper all joined our party. The rigging was simple 3’ of 25-30 pound fluorocarbon leader and 1/0 long shank hook. Great day with 3 great guys.
