Captain Robin Calitri of LongIslandFlyFishing.com reports a very, very interesting week. Monday morning, Gary Homkow did a early bird and had a ball with small blues on clousers. That evening the trio of Joel Weiss, Joe Viviani snd Frank Schoerder decided that the weatherman was nuts and there would be no thunderstorms. I checked the weather all day and decided to go. We hit a few spots and Joe takes a smallish blue. We look up and the end of the world seems at hand so I run into Northport,. We tie up at the town dock and go over to Skipper's Pub where we had a few beers and appetizers. The skies opened up with a real rainy boomer. We thought that it was over so we went back on the boat only to be caught in a real doozy. Once it past I said that we were going home to Huntington. Well, as we turned the corner towards Centerport the bay was alive with bunker and blues but these were no ****tails. The Three Amigos took beauties to 12 pounds on surface poppers. Joel even caught himself in the head which resulted in 6 staples but Captain Robin patched the wound with a sanitary pad and Joel kept fishing. Nice job!
Friday saw John Fischer of Trout in the Classroom and Bob Lutz of Long Island Fly Rodders cover the Sound from LIPA to Mount Misery. They just had a ball with smallish blues on clouser, crease and popper flies. Csicagain has few open dates.
