Santa Cruz: Old man and the sea

Dan went and fished up in the same area Kurtis was fishing the other day (around Davenport) and brought back these two – a 16 pound ling and a 26 pound halibut. He also brought back a nice cabezon and a smaller halibut. Beautiful fish Dan!

Capitola: Mullet power – activate!
33.JPG
Here’s Mighty Myron the Mariner with the nine pound flattie he caught today out by the Capitola reef buoy (before it mysteriously sank). He was using live sardines on a halibut rig. It bit about noon – before that he was fishing over by 26th avenue and lost one there. He also returned two undersized lings and a couple of brown rock fish. A pretty decent day for Myron – his mullet is definitely making a comeback.
Bait was plentiful again this morning just outside the marina – lots and lots of sardines. Initially it was over more on the west side of the wharf but moved to it’s usual spot by 7:30 or so.

Not much of a wharf report today – we were not paying much attention. However Ed is just now baiting up to go find himself a striper – we’ll see.

Capitola: It is a stampede

Matt and Bryan visited the new buoy as well and fished the area using dead sardines on red and yellow shrimp fly rigs. They were rewarded with this 12 pack of nice browns plus one black cod kicker. They noted that they also lost a halibut at the boat on the same gear. They figured they had enough fish so they came in early.

Capitola: Class is in session

Ed spent a few minutes fishing out by the new buoy today and picked up this 10 pounder. He was using live sardines on a halibut rig and drifting just inside the mark. Beautiful fish Ed (but yoiu know that don’t you).
