We have had a bunch of rain here in the last week or so and it has kept our water temps down. So ll salmon are stiil up towards the surface and hitting flies and small lures. A few browns and splake are being caught as well. If you don't know what a splake is, it is a cross fish. It is crossed between a brook trout and a lake trout. A lot of fishermen don't like them. But myself I do. They put up a good fight like a brookie. They also seem to live in the deeper water like the lakers do. They taste better than a laker. They are not as oily.
I have been useing flies mostly this spring. Your Grey Ghost, Black Ghost, and most any smelt patterns work well also. I have come up with a pattern that works real well. I call it a DGS Special. It looks like a pin smelt and it gets a lot of hits.
