Lake - Table Rock

5/1/10:

KimberlingCity Area: Another wave of fish moved up to spawn this past week, several largemouth are now on the bed throughout the mid lake area. Chompers Ultra Tubes and Jewel Eakins craws have both been very effective when targeting these fish. Post spawn fish can be caught on gravel points and banks close to spawning areas, four inch Chompers single tail grubs, Jewel Squirrel Heads with finesse worms and split shot rigs will all catch post spawn fish right now. If it is cloudy and windy grubs are a better bet as the fish will be up shallow inside the moss line, if it is calm and sunny switch out to the Jewel Squirrel head or split shot and fish from twelve to twenty feet deep.

James River: Just like the mid lake another wave of spawning fish moved to the banks over this past week up the James River. The same baits that are working on beds in the mid lake will work up the river. Early and late in the day there is an awesome topwater bite; spooks, red fins and sammys are all catching schooling fish on points and around trees close to spawning areas. Once the sun comes up target post spawn and spawning fish with; fish doctors on split shot rigs, Jewel Football jigs with J-tail trailers and Carolina rigged lizards. Most of these fish are between six feet and fifteen feet deep and are fairly aggressive. Further up the river there is a developing buzz bait and shallow crankbait bite on flat banks and points near deep water.

White River: The White River continues to be incredible; just like the rest of the lake more spawning fish moved up over the past week, post spawn fish are aggressively hitting topwater baits early and late and through out the day fish can be found in ten to twenty feet deep on points in both the main lake and major creek arms. Spooks, Sammys and red fins will produce vicious strikes on gravel points and in pockets with standing timber, look for surfacing fish early and late to find suspended fish. As the day wears on move out to gravel points and throw Jewel Football and Spider jigs rigged with J tail trailers or split shot rigged fish doctors or French fries from ten feet to twenty feet deep. Up the Kings River there is a very good spinnerbait bite in shallow pockets with wood cover, a Chompers McCutchen spinnerbait is hard to beat around laydowns and stump fields.

Dam Area: Another wave of spawning fish came to banks on the lower end this week as well. The ultra clear water of the dam area makes sight fishing easier than on most parts of the lake; Chompers Ultra Tubes and Jewel Eakins Craws have been top choices for sight fisherman. Chompers four inch single tail grubs fished on three sixteenth ounce heads have been very effective on shallow gravel points on windy days, fish will be shallow and inside the moss line so anything heavier than a three sixteenth head is difficult to fish. A weightless white super fluke will put numbers and quality in the boat around big community and condo docks. Skip the bait as far as possible into the dock slips, allow it to fall about three seconds and work it back to the boat with a jerk and pause retrieve.

Lake – Taneycomo

5/1/10

Taneycomo continues to be amazing; so many trout and so many bigger trout are being caught it is hard to imagine just how may fish you can catch in a day. From Fall Creek to Cooper Creek jigs remain the best choice, thirty-second ounce to eighth ounce jigs in sculpin, white, olive and black have all been producing fish, adjust the weight of your jig based on the current flow. Further down stream Little Cleos and Panther Martin spinners are producing on shoals and in shallow areas. From MonkeyIsland to Rockaway Beach Gulp and Power Eggs or live night crawlers are producing fish on drift rigs.
