Capt. Chris Asaro February 8, 2010 Honolulu - Sal****er Fishing Report
I must admit, i had no idea that oahu, hawaii would be the place to be for wintertime bonefishing. The action has remained constant with just the occasional front to put a damper on things. Capt. Duffield has gotten very creative and it has paid off in dividends. With the custom Andros panga advantage, he has been working the inside of the surf around the north shore. He has reported spotting large schools of fish in all sizes up to 14 lbs. Here is a recent 7 lb bonefish on a beautiful day!
Thanks Bob for sending me the picture of your first bonefish. He got it on a jig on an absolutely beautiful day!
The past week has been very good from the reports i have been getting. On Saturday, Capt. Duffield said they had nearly 50 shots and saw almost 200 fish! Amazing numbers considering that the water is too cold for bonefishing in many of the popular destinations. I missed all of the fun due to surgery on my foot. It appeared i had a splinter leftover from nearly a year ago. the stitches were removed this morning and i will be back in action by midweek. Look for a through report from the flats next week! I received a new batch of fly tying materials from Hairline Dubbin, inc. and it has kept me out of trouble. Looking forward to testing and reporting on some of my new creations!
Honolulu Fishing Forecast:
I know i'm sounding like a broken record, but the weather has been and should remain great through next week. Fronts will become more frequent in thecoming months so take advantage of the great weather when you can!
