What a blast from Mother Nature… another cold front.We went straight from summer temperatures to winter temperatures with no in between, and it is going to make the big fish move back into the Bay.Despite the cold weather and the wind, fishing has been outstanding.Don’t get me wrong, we’ve had several days on the water where we had to find a cozy little fishing spot out of the wind, a spot where the trees blocked the wind from blowing us right off the water.Those windy days are some of the best days to be on the water fishing; you can’t keep the fish off of your bait.

The snook is good example of a fish migrating to shallow water during the winter.Many of the snook we’ve caught have been in the shallow flats that surround the rivers. We’ve still been fishing with live bait, but it is getting to be the time of year for lures.I’m sticking with live bait until the water temperature drops below 63 degrees.At 63 degrees or below the fish tend to shy away from live bait, but they will chase a lure down.

Although we haven’t seen many big schools of redfish, we’ve still been catching a lot of fish.Like the snook, redfish love shallow water this time of year.They also appear around structure this time of year, where we fish for them with shrimp.Also like the snook, redfish don’t like live bait when the water temperature gets low.We should have about one more month of the live bait fishing then we’ll have to switch it up.Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your fishing trip today!
