First let me start by telling you about the king fish and Spanish mackerel that have just gotten here. There are all the Spanish you want just off the beaches and in the bay itself. All you have to do is start looking for the birds working bait on the surface and cast your bait into them and hang on. These are the big Spanish and you can catch as many as you want. The kings are hanging in the deeper water a few hundred yards off the beaches in about 30' of water and they are mixed in with the Spanish so you never know if you are going to get a king fish or a Spanish, but regardless, the action is non stop. As for the inshore fishing, it is ok but until we get some cooler weather I don't think these fish will bunch up on a consistant basis. They are scattered out and that makes it tough to get a good bite going. It takes a bunch of fish to start a feeding frenzy and even though there are a lot of fish out there they are just not bunched up just yet. Therefore, we have to work a lot harder to have a good day on the inshore fish. I guess I have become an opportunist after all these years of guiding and off shore is where the action is right now... as you can see by the picture. Last Friday I took Charlie Brown (not the cartoon character) and his good friend Terry off shore and WOW what a day. I like to take a mate with me when I head out to the blue water and we can keep his limit of fish as well and that is just what we did. By 12:15 we were heading back to the dock because my new fish box couldn't hold any more fish. I dropped the anchor one time and at that one spot we had 7 grouper, reds and gags, 6 dolphin, 20 mangrove snapper up to 24", several yellow tail snapper, lesser AJ's, and some Spanish mackerel. This was a trip these guys and myself won't forget about for a long long time. Here is the cool thing, it should only get better as we get further into fall and with the weather warming back up this coming week the dolphin should stick around for a while longer. The grouper should only get better as well and the snapper. I have to ask myself is it worth the run on a nice day to head out there for non stop action with big fish (all great eating fish as well) or stick it out on the inside? Well, my answer is if the clients are flexible and the weather is right then let's head off shore while the fish are on fire out there. There is so much going on right now I can't wait to get back out there myself. I love fast action and chaos on the boat from fish bitting so fast and I love for people to leave my boat with a sore arm. That is a satisfied costumer and that is what keeps me in business after all these years! I am just so happy to have a boat that I can do all this in and do it in comfort. It is also a nice change to see something different as well. But it won't be long before we get a couple of cold fronts and the inshore will be on fire as well.
