This report will not be to different from last months.The heat is still on and the weather pattern is the typical sizzling summer.
Due the the afternoon rains, the water clarity is stained tannic from the run off.So sight fishing is limited to fishing off the beaches in early morning hours.
Pods off snook scour the surf line searching for disoriented baitfish. Small white flies is the best tool for fooling these beach snook, due to the size if baitfish they are targeting. To big of an offering will get denied, too small will go unnoticed. Majority of the snook are sub-slot fish, but every once in a while you'll spot a bigger female surrounded by numerous smaller males.
First light in the Everglades you can start your day by casting to smaller rolling tarpon. An assortment of flies, plugs, and jig will get some attention. Stronger tides will give a better bite, yet still its only last a short time before the sun climbs to high.
As the sun climbs and the heat does the same, you will find the fish moving to deeper waters or shaded banks with moving water to stay cool. This is where your typical blind casting takes place. Sinking your cast as far back in the shadows will not go unnoticed. Anything from snook, tarpon, red fish, to snapper could be on the end. This time of year you never know what could your offering!
Last but not least, you always have the night fishing. Hordes of snook crowd the residential dock lights willing to eat anything moving. Once again, a small white fly works the best. Just make sure have moving water.
All in all it comes down to beating the heat this time of year! Early starts are a must!
